IRFP240PBF - lead free?
Is IRFP240PBF the same as IRFP240? The data sheet says lead free. What does it mean?

It means soldered etc inside using leadfree solder, and is compatible with use in leadfree systems. RoHS and WEEE and all that.

Ussually the die are wire bonded which is an "acoustic welding" raz ma taz, with a gold based wire, but, the leads are "tined". This "tin plateing" process used lead which is now, non-rohs compliant! The "tining" will now contain no lead and more tin, maybe gold, but I doubt it! Maybe silver... When using lead free solder you generally need more heat. It generally dosen't look as "nice" either, kinda frosty looking... Look at your suppliers carefully, personally I don't care about lead, some non-rohs cmpliant items, like IRFP240s can be found at reduced prices:D :D :D
