Hi there,
A friend wants to build Aleph-X's for biamping his Apogee speakers (I belive they're Mini-Grands (?) ) I suspect he may have to crank up the bias to better handle the low impedence. Does this seem workable? Or should he go for larger Alephs? Any comments/suggestions, especially experience with Alephs and Apogees will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dennis |

Sounds like a good choice. You can bias the Aleph X however you choose and scale it to whatever power you want. This amp seems to be perfect for lower voltages and higher currents.

Dennis,
he should see to it that he goes for low power into 8 Ohms (max. 30 watts or so) to keep the efficiency up but he´ll need at least 4A of bias (8A with an X) to get sufficient power into 2 Ohms. For 1 Ohm loads I would recommend a bit higher ac-current gain and even higher bias. Also usefull is the paralleling of 6 or more output devices and low values for the source resistors (<0.47Ohm) to keep the voltage drop into low impedances (high current) as low as possible. william

I understand that Apogee speakers are very difficult to drive and I have not done extensive listening to those speakers. I do however use my Aleph 2 to drive my $500 Maggie speakers (not so difficult load) and it seems that the Maggie is still hungry for more current. That's just my listening impression.

Thanks for all the advice and comments. Looks like I'll
be ordering more Aleph-X boards. Dennis |
