Thumbs up Choosing and Finding Switches

Switch wisdom needed,
I have a number of small projects in process, some of which require the use of switches, for example, the restoration of an Advent 300 and the last stages of a BOSOZ. I would really appreciate some pointers on selecting good switches, rotary, slide and toggle. Not only name brands or sources, but also which is most appropriate for a particular task or what to look for in construction.
Thanks
Charles BL
