I am building an Aleph 30 amp (BrianGT miniA/A30 boards). I was looking for something in the 600-800VA 18-0-18 variety but haven't found anything.
I sent Antek an e-mail (saw a post with 2 400VA 18-0-18 transformers) but have not received a reply. Does anybody have a favorite transformer for this amp (building as a 2 channel amp)? Thanks, SteveA |

I am using a couple of Antek's 16V trafos. You could also, since you are in the US, use one of the 34V trafos, and wire the primaries for 220, which will net you dual 17V secondaries, or a 39V for 19.5V.

Brian, Thanks for responding. If I understand correctly, I would wire the primaries for 220V but by applying 110V I would get 17V instead of 34V. Is that correct? (Sorry, chemist by training) SteveA |

Correct me If I am wrong but, would you then only get 1/4 power if you wired a 120v for 230?

Building also an Aleph 30 (P.Daniel's boards), I was planning to use a 500 VA 18-0-18 V as this kind of toroid transformer is easilly available here (I leave in Europe). Would you think this would be sufficient ?
Also, I plan to use 4 capacitor 47000µF 40V Aerovox : again, would it be sufficient or should I go to a higher total capacitance and voltage rating ? was also possibly thinking to go to a CLC configuration with these capacitor althought the rail voltage will then be below the nominal 25V. Thanks for you help. Olivier |

Olivier,
I used a 500VA 2x20 transformer with roughly the same amount of capacitance in a CRC configuration and it worked well. I would imagine that your set up will also be ok, though with possibly a slightly lower rail voltage. Cheers, Dennis |

I'm running mine off 16VAC trafos, and it sounds great. I don't think you will have any issues with your rails. In fact, you can probably afford more biasing
