Hi Russ,

It's now clear that you are using 7 binary weighted L-pads connected in series.

What confused me was your earlier post
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showt...486#post828486
where you mentioned the 2R-R topology. The idea has obviously been abandoned in the meantime.

Thanks,
Milan

Ahhh so thats what its called! Works for me.

I am certainly happy to clarify. I will actually post a more in depth thread after some mre work.

The earlier experment you saw to was my 5 relay R-2R circuit, which also worked well, but it is of course linear, and so I liked this approach better.

Cheers!
Russ

It's on its way. The control devices need to be soldered in
yet - I don't have them yet.

You can see the mute relays at the bottom left.
Selectors are along the bottom. Volume is the two
symmetrical areas along the left side. The cut out area
made 3 more tiny boards - 2 for the displays and one for
the PIC controller.

Brian and I are working on a source selector to go with the attenuator. I will post more on that later. For now you can read about the attenuator here:

It is working. and very well

The attenuator looks great.
The pads and holes though for the resistors look a bit small.
Bigger pads are easier to solder.
Will the pcbs be double sided with vias or single sided?
It looks like single sided to me so maybe larger pads are a good idea.
Using the DAC with the a normal pot is also a good idea because there is know need for a display.
I also like the idea of a 7bit control because its more stable and not so many steps. 6 would also would be ok.

The relays are very good. I think one could also use others but I am not so sure how universal they are.

If the input selection is also so simple and good I will be surely using them.
A mute Relay would be helpful to make a time delay on turn on etc.
