Is that Mr. Pass who makes amps with Phase Linear brand?
How do they sound? Compared to Passlabs or Threshold?
As I know, that amps was designed by Mr. Bongiorno...
Phase Linear was property of Bob Carver:
I believe he also designed the amplifiers until Pioneer took over somewhere in the early eighties.
That's Bob's personality. It infuses the entire engineering department. I'd love to meet the man some day.
The Carver amps sounded better as time went on. The Threshold amps sounded "smoother" it seemed. But the Carver designs are sometimes daring to prove a point. They are generally reliable, as are the Pass designs. Both designers produce excellent, but different products.
I should mention that Nelson's old company, Threshold, were every bit as friendly and accommodating as Bob Carver's company. Another person I'd love to meet.
