I am in the mids of building a BOSOZ . I'm having trouble following the wiring for the transformers on the 120Voltage side. In the article on building the preamp, Nelson states that blue and violet wires go to the "hot side of the AC" while the purple and grey goes to the "cold side". How do you determine which is which? On a polarized plug is the wider blade the "hot side"?

the hot side is the dangerous side, the 120 Volts.
the cold side is the "easy to handle" output of the transformer, it is conected to the rectifier take care with the hot side, it could be your last job....

This illustration may help you. Just refer to the two sides of the transformer. All pre-amp or amp wiring are similar.
