Smile Power resistor values in Aleph 5?

Hello All,

I have sourced a set of matched Mills resistors for my Aleph 5 (www.soniccraft.com) and the 1 ohm are no problem but the only value I can get for the .47 is .50

After looking at some of the photos of completed Alephs it seems that some people are using standard sand cast resistors which can vary by up to 10% so I am thinking that .50 in place of .47 is not such a bad thing, is it?

Thanks for any help.

P.S., I did search the threads but got side tracked for 3 or 4 hours, this has got to be the best DIY site on the NET, Period.

This much difference is no problem at all. I'm using single 0.1 Caddock 16W resistor in my Aleph5 and 0.82 ohm for source resistors. It works fine.

Well I have received my resistors and while they are matched they are no where near 1%, the .5R's are at .7 and the 1R's are at 1.4.

Is this within acceptable limits? I know the Alephs' are tolerant of parts values but is the Aleph 5 this tolerant?

Thanks.

Hello Tony,

I think you can still use these values but how did you measure them? It´s always very difficult to measure these low values with a normal multimeter.

maybe you measured the resistance of resistors and resistance of leads from multimeter..

Thanks for the replies.

I am measureing the resistors with a Fluke multimeter and my first thought was that it may have been out of spec. so I measured a few resistors of which I know the value and the meter is working fine.

The Fluke allows me to measure R's without using leads so this variable is removed, I am going to take some of the resistors to work and have one of the technicians do a fine measurement.

At this point though I am thinking that the Mills had better sound good because they sure don't measure up to a 1% spec. as advertised, but perhaps when I get a professional measurement tomorrow things will look better, and ultimatly it is how they sound not how they measure that is important to me and I have it on very good authority that the Mills sound extremely good in the aplication I am using them in.

To set the record straight this morning one of the Techs' at my place of work measured the Mills resistors and they are actually within +/-1%.

I geuss this is the difference between a $200. Fluke MM and a full test suite.

Hi.

1. Would it Mills 0.1 ohm 12W be sufficient for my "Aleph 4" instead of 6x0.47ohm in parallel.?

2. For the source resistors I will be using Mills 1.5 Ohm 5W it looks good to me.

Thanks
