I wish to build an Aleph-X 100 Watt/ch. But I have no experient. So I will start with the smallest one such as Grey's Aleph-X (+/-15V). Could Grey's schemetic could run at +/-12V. or lower?

I can't find the original post, but I remember Nelson stating that the Mosfets really need more than 12v to operate properly. I think that's why Grey's original schematic calls for 15v rails...

Will it work?
Yes. But... Distortion will be higher. You might consider recalculating the resistor that biases the Zener in the front end CCS to a lower value, say, 1.5k or so. Actually distortion will continue to decrease as the rails are raised on up into the 25 or 30V range, above which it becomes more or less academic. It's sort of a diminishing returns sort of thing. I could have specified rails greater or less than 15V, but it seemed like a good, round figure that would be relatively easy for people to attain. Grey |

Thanks Eric, Grey
If it work at 12-13V., it's my objective. (just a trial) Then, It will be scale up to 22-25 V. later. Grey, Are there any changes of component value to run your schematic at 12-13 V. Regards, Santi |
