Question for Mr.Pass

Hi!

I was wondering if you have any experience running a cd player with volume-adjustment directly into the x-amps?
Do you recomend using a pre-amp, or is this just as good a solution?

I now am the proud owner of a x250 and a x1

The volumepot of a cd player is not so good quality.
So connection from a variable output is a degradation of your system.

You are a lucky bastard with a x250 and x1.

I have happily run Wadia players directly, keeping the volume
level high to avoid bit loss. Generally it's just more convenient
to run it through an X1 for using different sources.

I am considering the Wadia cd player, and I don't intend to use any other sources than cd.

But do you think it will sound equally good without the x1 pre, or is it possible that the x1 will make it even better together with the Wadia?

The attenuator circuit of most cd players are no good! They kill the dynamics of the music.
I would use the X1 preamp anytime, and leave the CD player at full throttle If I just had some PASS gear
