Default Question to Mr. Pass and the members

I now have the x600 with the x1 pre. They are about five years old both. I was wondering if you think it would be advicable to send them in to check/adjust bias and so on? Could they be way off after five years?

I would also like to ask you how you feel about using the x600 with ML odysseys? I think it sounds marvelous, but a retailer here in Norway said that he didn't recomend the x600, since the impedance on the ML's go towards 1 ohms. Will this be a problem for my amps? Will they run to hot like the retailer said, and possibly break my amp?

I would appreciate any comments from you guys at the forum as well

Thank you,
Greetings from Norway
Per Øyvind Hansen

PS Nelson: I am thinking about upgrading to x600.5. Are there any major differences, besides on the paper, between the two?

I don't think your Martin Logan speakers will cause your Pass Labs X600 amplifiers to fail. I think he is just trying to sell you a pair of speakers.

What I mean by this, is that are there any point in changing to the 600.5 for a satisfied 600 owner? Are there major differences? What will I experience when hooking up the x600.5 compared to the x600? I run them with Martin Logan Odysseys.

If you're a satisfied owner of the X600, why do you want to change?

Well, we always want whats better don't we. This is no exception when it comes to Hi-Fi (for myself at least).
I am very satisfyed with my x600, but i constantly strive for a better system. I naturally thought that the new .5 series could bring me even more satisfaction

If an X600 couldn't drive those MLs I don't know what your dealer has in mind that could.

There is no reason to think that an X600 would wander, but
you can always note the heat sink temperature which would
be about 25 deg C above ambient, maybe a little more. You
should feel some discomfort within 10 seconds of putting your
hand on the top of the sinks.

As to driving ML's, they work quite well. They run so little
feedback that they don't get excited by the high frequency
resonance (impedance dip) of the stats, and they have good
control on the bottom. If you think there's a better amp, I
suggest you demo it first.

Lastly, the X600.5 has not been released yet, so I can't comment.
