Wink New Member_Aleph Project

Dear All,
I am a new comer from Hong Kong.
I would like to build a power amp greater than 40W_Class A.
I have go to the passdiy.com,but still have questions :-

1) What is the latest ver of Aleph, where I can found the
Schematic, PCB layout and ref. documents, etc., ?

2) Which one is most fit what I want ?

3) How can I study in very beginning (full history of Pass Project) ?

4) In Hong Kong most common PowerMosFet is K135, is it fit for Aleph projects ?

5) Also it is also hard to find "Big Heat Sink". any good channels to buy it ?

6) which serious is design with "SuperSymmetry" ?
7) Any suggestion in "Kit" supplier ?

Best Regards !

Thomas

Hi Thomas and welcome.

1) All Aleph schematics can be found at PassLabs.com.
2) According to Nelson Aleph2 is the 'best'.
3) Passdiy.com and DiyAudio.com
4) Don't think so but can't tell you why.
5) Ebay?
6) AlephX, look at the wiki. There's a mindblowing calculation speadsheet too.
7) We don't do kits but look around, you'll find pcb's.
Or you could go P2P as a few of us did.

Good luck

/Hugo

The most recent version of the Aleph is the Aleph 30 and Aleph
60. The owners manuals also contain the schematics and
can be found online at www.passlabs.com. There are numerous
PC boards and artwork available - right on this forum, I
believe.

I will let someone else address your other questions, but
the K135 is, I believe, a lateral Mosfet, and will give somewhat
different performance than the vertical IR type Mosfets used in
the original Alephs. It can be used with some adaptation.

The Aleph2 of course is the king of the Alephs. The Aleph5 might be a bit closer to you wishes (a good 60 watts class A) and a lot cheaper to built

A good source for ready made PCBs is Kristijan http://web.vip.hr/pcb-design.vip/

Probably some of the fokes here will be glad to share a pcb design with you, I believe somebody is working on a new generic Aleph PCB design right now.

This thread has PCB artwork and some good discussion on the
Aleph 2, and it can be scaled to any Aleph you wish.

Why isn't the Aleph 1.2 the king? If the Aleph 1.2 is 6 foot tall and wearing a crown of gold and diamonds, and the Aleph 2 (or the Aleph 5 for that matter) is 5'8" and wearing a crown of gold and emeralds.....seems like a no brainer....

Anyway, Thomas, I got a great deal on extrusions from M&M metals in Irving, TX. Of course I drove over there to pick them up, but all in all they were very very reasonable. I bought 12 feet of extrusions for my Aleph for about $320. GEt in contact with Bob Hardin www.mmmetals.com....972 438-1247.

Good luck!!!!

"Why isn't the Aleph 1.2 the king?"

The high end is a bit more rolled off on the 1.2. It is more powerful but not as neutral as the 2 is. IMHO the original Aleph 3 is still the king of them all if you are not taking power into acount. It has soundstaging and imaging that put to shame the finest amps out there. It is one amazing amp... recently built one for a friend of mine.

But anyway... I really love my Aleph 2s!

Yes, M&M Metals is THE place to go in the States for good prices and nice to deal with people. Wakefield and Thermolloy are not interested in any small orders....

When Goldilocks tried the three bears' porridge, chairs, and
beds, she always found one that was just right. for many people,
including me, that was the Aleph 2.

Truly the Aleph 2 is not best for me at the moment, but then
I am running 5 and 10 watt amps currently, and the Aleph 2
is just too big.

If you are a Pappa bear, you want a 1.2. If you are Momma
bear, a 2 is just great. If you are a baby bear, an Aleph 3
fits the bill.

If you listen through a magnifying glass, an F1 is just swell.

If you are King Kong, I sell a nice X1000 you need to consider.

/pass/: Loves Bebel Gilberto and JLH amps. Don't tell Carlos
the Destroyer X.
