Driving Pass Amps direct without pre-amp? With a Wadia, experience anyone?

I was wondering if some of you have driven any Pass Amps from the past (Thresholds, Alephs) or new X series, directly from their CD Player.

I am thinking of getting a used Wadia 6 or 16, or maybe an 850. I'd of course be happy to spare the cost of the pre-amp, especially if it helps with transparency and some bla-blah I read about this way to hook-up.

And by sparing the pre-amp, I'd financially be able to get a newer/better Pass model... ;-)

On the contrary, some folks told me this just does not work properly... ?

I read that some input impedances of some Pass Amps where "special", how would that translate in this situation? Will the Wadia drive the amp to an adequate volume?

I have used both a 6 and a 16 directly, and they work
like they're made for each other - no problem at all.

I'm sure the 850 is equally fine.

I run my Wadia 830 staright into my X -250 and it is the best. Ad any thing else in t he chain detracts from the sound quality, from very litlle to alot depending on what you have added.

I just started using an Adcom GFP 750 preamp so I can run a phono stage in my system. In Passive mode it effects the signal very , very litlle. But still if you A/B the two sets ups it is slightly more transparent and detailed with the Wadia direct into the Amp. It has two be, you have eliminated a set of interconnects and and one componet ( whether it is passive or not ).
