Are old stepped attenyuators worth messing with?
I found this old stepped attenuator in a junk box and was wondering if anyone has messed with them. This one is a dual 10K and looks to be a balanced pot. Nice construction and what looks to be silver contacts. The whole thing is inside a shielded can to boot. The resistors could be changed to suit my needs for an output attenuator for my Aleph L line stage but I might try it as is.... Anyone here ever mess with these or should I toss it?

Great for stepped attenuators. Sit down, say a thank-you prayer, then try to inventory what they do. How many wipers, how many steps, that kind of stuff. And keep them closed as much as posisble to prevent oxidation and corrosion.

I had a feeling they were worth working with. I also have access to a largish box containing between 20 and 30 of them at a good price... perhaps I will grab them all. Best regards, Mark
