A maker of some of the best volume controls is Alps. They are really good and most high end new and old amps use them. They last longer, sound better, and turn smoothly! Alps makes simple taper and linear pots and also some motorized and stepping versions. Whatever your pick, they are mostly all good.

Check out the new Parts Connexion. They were having (and probably still are) a special on a batch of stepped Alps.

I used a DACT on my BOSOZ and I like it a lot, you can get one at a good price from Rolph at www.audiocomponents.nl.

Yes, the link I included is the source for the DACT, I used a CT-2 stereo attenuator. Rolph is a great guy to deal with and he has the best prices I have seen on drivers and DACT gear.

Some of you have asked for details of the volume control unit (counter) in my Aleph P 1.7 clone, published at PASSDIY-Gallery. I hope the appended schematic answers the questions.
