Question Aleph information

Hello,

For the past couple of days I have been reading about the Alephs on this forum and have come across a few really help full pages such as Mark Finnis Alephs and Kristijan Kljucarics. But the Aleph page on PassDIY doesn't seem to work Is there another link with more information and detail on the evolution of the Alephs like there is with the Zen amps?

Cheers
Jye

It does work, but sometimes you have to go looking
through archives for the older service manuals. Also,
the DIY stuff has largely been moved to www.passdiy.com

And then sometimes the internet just doesn't work....

The largest single depository of information on Alephs is www.passlabs.com/downloads.htm
Look down towards the bottom of the page for the Aleph service manuals. There's some discussion of the function of the circuit in the service manuals. Also, you can go to www.uspto.gov and prod around until you find the patent. That was the key for me, although some people find patents difficult to read.
Note that there isn't a writeup for the commercial Aleph products in the sense that there is for the official project stuff. It's left out there as a kind of intermediate to advanced set of materials. Once upon a time Mark Finnis and I were (I think) the only people building Alephs. He built one of the stereo models, either a 4 or 5. I built a pair of 2s, then later another pair of 2s, then started building my own variations, such as the Mini-A and later the Aleph-X and...I'm still at it--stuff I ain't even mentioned yet. If I get some time, I'll take a look at Mark's website and see what he's been up to recently. I don't have a website--everything I've written to date pertaining to Alephs and Xs and such has been here. Somewhere a while back, I did a thread on building the Aleph 2s, including circuit board layouts. By now, there are about a zillion Alephs in the field, and almost that many threads on them here.
The original Zen is essentially a "dumbed down" Aleph output stage. One of the later Zen projects is a "smarter" Aleph, but I forget which one. That might help.
Did you have any particular questions, or were you just browsing?

Cheers Grey

I just had a poke around uspto and I can now say I am one of the people who can not read patents

I was initially browsing but after reading about the Zens and their evolution I was really excited and looking forward to making one, but after reading more I think I will go with the Aleph 5. As you said there are countless threads on them and they have been a great source of information, I was just looking for the original source of all these threads.

Try taking a look at the service manual. That's the obvious place to start.
