I have two things to look forward to this month:
The remake of Tarkovsky's "Solaris" And, El Pipe-O Something tells me El Pipe-O might turn out to be the more exciting of the two. Thanks PASSDIY! |

No doubt Stanislaw Lem's novel will be sweetened for the masses, and the power trio of Soderbergh, Clooney and Cameron ultimately my induce Andrei Tarkovsky fans to blow massive, hurling chunks, but should be entertaining none the less.
The original Solyaris can be found here: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0069293 the new Solaris here: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0307479 Dana |

Sweetened for the masses is a serious understatement.
James Cameron is yet another graduate of the Roger Corman school of filmmaking. Of course the original is pretty boring. I own it and have only sat through it once.

At least you were able to sit through it...
![]() Even though I love the cinematography, as a rule of thumb for most Tarkovsky films I watch, I use the following formula which describes viewing stamina; T=4C, where T is running time in minutes, C is the number of 16oz. tumblers of piping hot coffee necessary for a successful conscious screening. For values of T less than or equal to 180 minutes; drink all of the coffee at paced intervals. If, however, T exceeds 180 minutes drink the first 3 cups (48 oz) at 60 minute intervals, finishing with a brisk pouring the final 16 in your lap at T=181... ![]() It generally works.. |

What!!? Did they run out of Philip K. Dick stories already......?
What next, a remake of Alphaville? Everything has been said, provided words do not change their meanings, and meanings their words, Fred http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/faqs/general.html |
