Hello everybody.
Finally i've got my P1.7 ( +APOX) and ONO working and with the final cosmetics job done! They both sounds in a wonderful way, but i have to say that the major difference in my stereo is made with the ONO. Some different phono stages of any kind (cheap , expensive, solid state, tubes...)have been here, but this one outperforms everything i've been able to to listen to. Now i can see what "sinergy" means. The turntable, arm, pickup phono stage system is very well balanced and sounds in the top range of the front end I've listened to, also if the pickup is a cheap (but wonderful) DL103. Next step will be trying the sowter 9580 input transformers for the phono, and finalizing the 2 aleph 30 for a biamped system that will replace my tweaked copland cta504. |

Thanks both to Moe and Taco.
Yes, the ONO is in 2 separate cases ( supply+preamp). The cases for the ONO are in aluminium from a company that is named CAMATROX ( www.camatrox.com). The profile is a DIN 43700 for panel instrument. Dimensions are 96x192mm, 300mm lenght , while the front panel is a 10mm thickness aluminium plate. This company is quite close to my town, and I've been able to get the 2 pieces simply going there, for something around 50 Euros both. Finishing was done with some powder painting at something like 1,5 euros (!!!) each piece and with a wonderful result due to the surface finishing that is actually not possible to appreciate in the photos. Thanks for the appreciation.
I take this opportunity to ask all the guys that have a P1.7 + Apox system volume ( with non constant impedance volume board apox1), how they ended with the choice of the resistors value. In fact with the nominal 5K resistor table, i 've ben facing serious problems of distorsions at the lowest volume settings (very high output impedancein the lowest values) , that i got rid of only lowering the impedance of the volume. One more complication is that the variations in output volume impedance , are actually causing some gain variations in the preamp, thus complicating the overall situation. I've solutioned all this, but it took some 2 months for figuring a suitable and acceptable working condition. Nevertheless, the Apox system is a nice piece, with some minor flaws, and I'm sorry that is no more available to the diy community. PS Once again I'll show you the inside of both the machines when I will need to disconnect all the stuff for some reasons. Ciao Paolo |

Paolo,
great job - very good looking (and I assume sounding) equipment. As to your question - I am using the Apox control with a specially made interface to my homemade implementation of the original Pass volume relay section (all Rs are according to the P1.7 drawing). I have some distortion (it sounds like an instability because no signal is required) at low volume settings from non-symmetrical sources (DVD, SAT) - never from any symmetrical source (CD, ONO - inverted input is shorted to gnd). My fix sofar has been to crank the volume a little up. Do I experience the same problem you had ? Regards, Andreas |
