Is there a limit of voltage to the powersupply for an Aleph 2?
I see from the gallery in passdiy that there is secondaries of both 33v and 37v and from an old project I have a 650VA/40V. Would that be an OK? |

as long as the output rail is around 45V, minor difference in transformer secondary is fine. However, your 40V maybe a little bit high, since the higher the output, the higher of power dissipation will be.

go with the 40V transformer, and add 2 more fets, and you'll get more like 120W. The front end circuit works fine anywhere from 25v to70 volt rails. the key is balancing the bias current so you current limit at the same time (or a little above) you voltage limit (clip)

Brian, i knew you were going to say add a FET!
For my Aleph 2 i used 37V secs. and got 45V rails exactly. -with 1 thermistor on the AC line in and 2mH L's between PSU caps, their additive voltage drop figured in.- |

Who said size doesn't matter... They obviously are underendowed.

as Brian said, the front circuit is basically the same with minor difference in each Aleph. This is the chart:

Ok... I probably go for two new ones. I do have opportunity to buy 2 pc of 990VA/ 38V or two with the 33V secondaries. I will be using 4 Nippon 68000uf/50V each ch., but I am not capable of figuring out if the ending rail. Any idea ?
and do it have to be at 45V point blank? |

no, you don't have to be exactly at 45V rails.
this Aleph 2 in the PassDIY Gallery is using 33V secondaries: Marijan's Aleph 2 Go for it!

i get one simens monster 2500w transformer in my stock.it's pri and sec voltage is just the same -220v.i'd like to rebuild the trans so as to have 2x 37-0-37v sec power supply and put the trans and the caps isolated from the main board.does my idea possible or inpossible?thx!

Hello everybody,
What happens to the ESR value of capacitors when you parrallel them. I have been looking for this information for weeks now but couldnt find it. Is it possible to use the ZEN 4 regulated powersupply for the powersupply of a aleph-2 Edwin
