Question Heatsink Recommendations for a 100 watt AlephX

I appreciate any thoughts folks have on selecting heatsinks for 2 100 watt AlephX mono blocks based on HifiZen's boards.

What heatsink experiences or recommendations could anyone share who has build a high output Aleph X?

I've looked at the heatsink catalogs from AAvid, Conrad, Thermaflo, etc. Don't mind spending the money for the right heatsinks, but cannot afford too much experimentation given the high costs.

Thank you!

David,
Did you look at the AXE1 spreadsheet who can be found in the wiki?

Heatsink calculation are included and can be matched with the manufacturers rth specs.
The rest of the parameters are mainly aesthetical.

Hi Netlist,

Yes I did the wattage calculations using the AXE-1 spreadsheet. I'll need something that dissipates 220 watts per 100 watt mono block. Yikes!

Per mono block, I was looking at:

4 - r-thea 66124
4 - mm metals MM5047-002
2 - Conrad MF30- 2F -151.5

The Conrads might be a little on the small side. I'd like to keep the temperature below 40-50 degree C above ambient. Cooler the better.

I'm really curious to see what others have done who have built high output Alephs and AlephX's

conrad mf18-151.5 seems to be able to take 50 watts with 30C over ambient. So mayby 2 of mf18-151.5 ?

Bump back to the top....

Has anyone completed a high output AlpehX? I would have thought with all the boards that sold in the GP we whould have had more 100 watt versions out there.

Really curious to see what decisions people have had in terms of heatsinks.

Thanks,

-David

Well, I finished mine a while ago and I’m still very happy with them.
I bought the sinks at Farnell, 0.29°C/W, IIRC the biggest I could get over there.
I’m planning to get the supply voltage (30V-0-30V) down to 25-0-25 and up the bias.
The amp was made before AXE1 existed and from there I learned how to get things more efficient with the same heat.
You can find the thread here: Industrial AlephX High Power version
and some picture and description at PassDiy.

David,

I have built a 100 X Aleph using Conrad MF35-151.5 (2),

That combination gives 31.5 C above ambient, Its proved completely reliable for 12 months using 12 IRF240 per channel.

Alternatively try 4 MF20-151.5 per channel in a square configuration like the original Aleph.

By the way, I had a personal tour by Julian Wales of the Conrad Engineering Heatsink business recently. Quality is A1.

Macka..... Is that 2 Heatsinks per channel or is it for stereo?
