All,
Would it be OK to use a incandecent light bulb (as in the Zenlightenment amplifier) as a CCS in a source follower configuration? Would it negatively impact the sound? I'm thinking this would be a good way to get around some of the large heatsinking requirements of a Class-A setup. Thanks, zagnar |

Should be no problem as long as the voltage drop across the bulb is high enough to simulate a real CCS.
Some people here in the forum say that a resistor load always sound better than a real constant current source... ...but in all Alephs the current sources are there,so ... I'm perplex. What does Nelson state for this crucial point?...

The bulbs work just great. Their impedances are fairly
high compared to speakers, and so they don't really load down the output much at all. See the article for the appropriate kinds of values and voltages. |
