Default Choke load for CCS-XBOSOZ ???

Would it be possible to make a CCS-XBOSOZ choke loaded??

I'm thinking something like a Zen V7 style pre-amp...

I think this has been brought up before. For a preamp,
the inductance has to be high, and it's usually just easier
to use resistors. On a power amp is where you start getting
what you want.

Why ?? and approx. how much is "high" ?? Are you saying that a choke load VS. a resistor load for this application would end up just the same?

Cheers

Is it possible?
Yes.
Is it worthwhile?
Not necessarily.
This is one of those questions like 'why can't you build a class AB preamp?' Well, of course you can, but the reason that you want to use inductors in a SOZ-like circuit is to cut the heat dissipation or, to put it another way, to increase the efficiency. Anything that uses a gazillion watts of power in order to produce 1 watt output could stand to have its efficiency increased. When it comes to preamps, though, you're talking about saving the difference between, say, 5 watts and 10. Okay, so you single-handedly manage to stave off global warming for 3 minutes and nineteen seconds. Neat. But is it really worth the trouble and expense?
Not to mention the fact that real resistors are far closer to being ideal in the mathematical sense than coils are to their ideal. All other factors being equal, your performance will be better with resistors. And the circuit will be cheaper to build.

Sometimes the detours are what makes this hobby fun. Don't be afraid to try new things, just have as clear a vision as possible of where you want to go, grab your compass, walking stick, and water, and strike out across country.
For instance...
Suppose you wanted to use this preamp section, not as a preamp, but as a stage in an active crossover. Size the coils to rolloff the frequency where you want it rolled off and...presto!...balanced active filter!
Cool, eh?

Hmm, not a bad idea, I'll keep that in mind for future speaker projects
