What ever happened to the new volume control circuit that Pass Labs was working on. Did I miss it, or is it still in patent/design limbo? I couldn't find anything when I skimmed recent threads.

probably patent limbo. i saw a message a long time back where Pass said he was writing it up.
probably will come out about the same time as the X2 service manual appears on the web site mlloyd1 |

We've been shipping it for years, but unless the patent office
gets its head out of its behind, it will have to remain a trade secret. |

thanks for the response. If I want to look at the bright side, I can note that I have three or four projects ahead of my preamp (and then there's the jet engine), so I won't be needing a volume control for a while

well, i seem to remember Pass saying something to the effect of "take a look inside and reverse engineer". i'd have a go at it, but the stores near me that sell gear at the Passlabs performance level are closed now. i haven't built up any relations with others that would take kindly to me asking techie questions with a screwdriver and digital camera in my hand
(but boy, it was fun while it lasted, though. learned a lot, met some cool people and actually helped sell some stuff ...) maybe someone has has taken a look inside and can start some discussion ? mlloyd1 |

well I don't think he can stop anyone from reverse engineering it. the law allows that.
of course it doesn't mean he has to give us free samples to get us started. |
