Aleph30 & 60 Schematics and PCB

Dear All,

Exhaustive reading of this board for 3 to 4 weeks and I am only just finalizing thoughts.

1. Is there an official schematic of the Aleph 60 still around. It appears to have gone from Pass's Old Products site ...

2. If I were to build an Aleph 30 or an Aleph 60, which printed circuit boards would you recommend or have individual builders used?

(I have tracked down some very early gifs from one or two people who had just got their PCB design programs up and going, and some were flawed: e.g. input differential pair not mated, narrow tracks for outputs, etc. However it is likely that there are "best" designs out there which I have not tracked down.)

I had also considered using some Aleph 2 boards and making the appropriate front ends up myself, but, in truth, I really am not THAT experienced in design myself.

3. I had considered building the Aleph 30 with P2P as shown by another reader very exquisitely. Without seeing the schematic, would that be reasonable for the Aleph 60 too?

4. I have read that some of the Aleph 30 and 60 projects didn't sound quite as good as their builders expected. Some were silly mistakes (reversal of connections on balanced inputs, wiring errors), but I get the hint that there is a lot more critical matching of components in these amps to get good results than the 2 and 3 series. (In one thread Nelson says: "The input stages of the Aleph 30 and 60 get devices which are matched in the amp itself
by inserting devices until we get what we want." Not knowing what "results" to search for, could that be one of the problems making the Aleph 30 or 60? Of course it is also a reason that lots of people BUY these amps from the "One and Only"

5. Do you get "better bass" from the bigger amps? (My current "lust machine" is the Electrocompaniet ECi4 and its bigger brothers. Wonderful big but tight bass from big loudspeakers, e.g. B&W Nautilus 802 and 803. The ECi3 is no slouch either, but spent much less time with it so not sure if I liked it as much. Problem though is cost of these, hence my time here.)

6. Apart from critical matching of current source and output MOSFETS, are there any other components which should be high on a hit list of "upgrades to audiophile quality". (Maybe this latter question should be saved up to a later day when I KNOW what I am doing. )

Hmmm .... that will do for the moment. I am seeing pixels before my eyes and I need something to eat, and perhaps off to the gym to burn off some physical energy. (I have a few questions about "tube friendly" speakers as discussed in the Zen series of articles, but they can wait.)

Regarding Question 2 of my above post:

I have re-read some of my collection of information ... it looks as if I can pretty easily use the Aleph 2 boards as the basis of an Aleph 30. Especial apologies to Grey R, because it is all quite well outlined in a previous post of his (Aleph 2 boards and others).

However, input into the other questions is still valuable, especially the schematic for the Aleph 60!

I have actually designed pcb's for Aleph. You can easily apply it to any Aleph you want to build, depending on which one you want to build, the only difference is a couple of resistors and the amount of ccs and driver mosfets. I should get my boards next week and i most probably will have a couple over. However you need to either p2p the ccs and drivers or design your own pcb for that. If they are indeed still online I think they are possibly a bit hard to find.
