I only tried EI 250VA transformers, and to me they sounded not as good as Plitron toroid. For some reason the air was missing (and I thought they woul dbe better). I didn't try C-core yet, but we might be getting some samples in a future.

Another interesting approach might be using 220V AC toroid with 110 V AC supply. This could produce some benefits. I alsi had some toroids from Definitive Technology with primary on the outside and they also sonded pretty good (and produced much less inrush current at turn on).

Please let us know about your results about the C-core. Who is the manufacturer and is it made in the States or Canada. Plitron has a low noise transformer for audio applications but they want big bucks.

You are right about the medical transformers. Which brand have you tried?

The Only C-Core trafo I have heard was in a Luxman M-02 power amp. (you know the light Champagne beauty with VU meters.)

The sound was as refined as I have ever heard. It did not have the midbass aplomb of a larger amp but had the definition and the air.

In their case, the price is well worth it.

Unfortunatly I was unable to get info on how to wind these cores to find out what is promissed on these sites. It lookes interesting to me.

You wind O core like torriodals...its just a more efficient (claimed more effecient, I dont know if thats true) way of making a torriodal trafo. So winding such should be no big deal if you got the required test equipment. Without the required test equipment its a no-go.

Everything is do the impossible just takes a little while longer.
