Would there be any sonic merit in providing a current source for the BOZ design? Any ideas?
Thanks Dale

Ok Harry,
Could I use an Aleph like current source or should I just try a DC one? Any suggested values/circuits? Thanks, Dale P.S. I do enjoy your humor... except when I want your knowledge.

Dale.
You might have to bribe Harry with a case of Foster's larger. Harry is correct but if I were you I would build the balanced version and current source that. Jam |

The reason that I ask is that I just traded HPotter some transformers for his BOZ with transformer and pot. I know that the Balanced might be better, but this will be easier.
Dale P.S. Harry, where do I send the beer?

given that it is such a low dissipation i would use a standard dc current source.

Peter,
I think the Aleph P 1.7 is a better preamp, it seems to be more datailed. I used to own one but if you like a slightly warmer sound stick with the balanced Zen. However both are excellent units. Jam |

So finally somebody shed some light on how those two preamps compare. I think there is another advantage to Aleph P. It uses only positive supply while Balanced BOZ needs both positive and negative rail.

Jam or anybody .......
1. Is building Aleph P 1.7 a lot more involved than building BOSOZ? 2. If it is, what are some of the tricky areas? 3. Isn't it true that they have a patented volume control? 4. Is the volume (controller?) easily built too? 5. Does anybody know approximately what it would cost to built this pre-amp? 6. Is all the parts shown on the schematics easily obtainable? |
