I have made one Balanced Zen LS and I am thinking of making a better pre-amp (even though BZLS is already very good). I am wondering if anyone have tried Aleph P 1.7 and/or XCCS Balanced Zen? Any suggestion which one might be a better one?
(also, if anyone had tried KRISTIJAN KLJUCARIC's board on both Aleph P or XCCS BZLS? How are they?) Thanks, Thomas |

tomchaoda,
I have made a CCS-X-BOSOZ with ProtoBoards Very good impressions, output on a A75 balanced and on a Zen V4 unbalanced and unbalanced inputs with a NAD C541 HDCD, see the link: Zen V4 and A75 listening with CCS-X-BOSOZ This version has only one CCS {Irf610}. It was a prototype, since I have made a new final one with 1 Pcb's for each channel... pictures comming soon... If you are interested in the schematic, feel free to ask. Regards. Alain. |

Yes, can you post your schematics? I want to compare to other X-BOSOZ published before and, BTW, how's the sound? Thanks, Thomas |

Tomchaoda,
The schematic of the X-CCS-XBOSOZ I worked with my idea mixed with Henrik's and Bob Ellis to build it. Regards. Alain. |

Thanks. Is this the same with what KRISTIJAN KLJUCARIC is selling? I have downloaded once, but have not compare it yet! Thomas |

Tomchoada,
No, not the same, this one has only one CCS, and an adjustable -10/-15 volts negative supply, to be able to adjust the bias in the 2 IRF610 at the same time... So you get the best of all worlds: - adjustable bias - CCS - X - BOSOZ The last version of the schematic, v2... Best regards, Alain. |

Tom I just recieved Kristjan Kljucaric's Aleph P v1.7 boards (Main Preamplifier and Power Supply board) and they are beautifully made boards. They are amoung the best I have seen. I am in the middle of gathering parts and so far have purchased Holco H8 resistors, Black Gate N for the coupling capacitors, Nichicon for the filter capacitors, Cardas RCA and Vampire XLR connectors, Corcom RFI/EMI Filter, Par Metal case and a Plitron toridal transformer. There are better parts available, but these are the best I can afford. Those who have built the Aleph P v1.7 rave about it. I just hope my version can measure up.

Hi!
About those kristijan's boards. My friend had bought one pair for aleph 5 and one pair for aleph p. Both of the boards are not good. They are really good. Aleph 5 is running and aleph p is almost up and running. regards daniel |

Alain:
I once saw in one of the diyaudio threads that mentioned XCCS-BOSOZ, in his opinion, is better than Aleph P 1.7 (but I can not find it now!). How's your impression of the sound in your design? Also, the original BOSOZ, Nelson suggest to put the VR on the output side. In your design it is on the Input. Is this a intended design or simply pick one choice? Thomas |

tomchaoda,
Well, I did not listen to a Aleph 1.7 yet... But had the chance to listen to the PassLabs X1, and that's a preamplifier!! For the CCS-X-BOSOZ the sound is detailed, open, airy, a lot of dynamics. I can compare it to the preamp of the NAD C350, which is a class A but muddy, less dynamics, lack of transparency. The VR on the output is missing from the schematic, I used a 10K 32 positions to short the outputs right at the 750 Ohms resistors, you can see the wires But it was tricky to adjust... and cliks all the way!!! The KYC111 Stepped attenuator from China is a mess, Never Ever use such a product, noise for all the steps. The only problem I have now, a lot of gain... !!!! And I am preparing a 10 K stereo stepped attenuator with 2*7 relays thats 128 positions ladder type for the input, but not finished at this time... On the other side I have found a APOX kit to finish the prototype, be able to switch inputs, and adapt the Aleph 1.7 like output atenuator to my needs. On the research for noise in volume switching, I have one idea to try a Wolfson WM8816 But I need to build the enclosures, and have so little time, and short nights... And a ONO also in construction... Best regards. Alain. |
