i`m just a little curious on how much diference regulation make sonically.

i`m in the process of designing a PCB for the Zen V4 but i can`t decide if i should add in the regulator.

i`m intending to run a pair of zens of a 24vac 300va trans i nicked from an OHP.

i realized that after rectification, i will get only 33v. the original Zen V4 was designed for 50 volt raw power supply with 42v on the amp`s rails. would it be okay to run it on 25 volt rails since i have lost 7 volts to the regulator. or is it better to dump the reg.

What are your viewS?

The Zen will work with or without the regulator. The AC hum will be a little higher without the regulator and bigger filter caps would help. Running the rail voltage at 33 VDC or 25 VDC instead of 42 VDC will just reduce the power output from the amp because of reduced voltage swing possible at the output.

Later BZ
