The amp camp and and other low wattage Class-A for car ?
Default The amp camp and and other low wattage Class-A for car ?

Hi
After having built a Zen V4, F5, F5 Turbo and Amp Camp Amp etc the amp I liked the sound of best was the F5 turbo followed by the F5 original.

My issue is we are wanting to get something good sounding for the Car obviously class-a amps draw a lot of power so I would drop perhaps down to a 5W or 10W amp. Having built the Amp Camp Amp a couple of years ago I thought it was a great little amp but sound wise it left a lot to be desired compared to the F5 to my ears.

I have a 24 volt ish SMPS circuit I can use to drive say an F5

Does anyone know of any good amp that sounds great for a car ? even a class-a/b DIY or not DIY

Thanks
Rik

If you had a preamp that had a lot of output the MoFo might be something to look at.

I was going to suggest Mofo though I've never built one.. simply because Mike R. said it ran decent on 12v and it only has to sink one active device. 12V offers a lot of options regarding the voltage gain stage if you were to DIY an auto stereo system. bjts, jfets, mos, etc.. The F5 topology being what it is, could also probably be adapted to 12-14v DC auto power with some time and attention. Perhaps even better suited to 4 ohm auto speakers.

Car Audio Amps by Nelson Pass

In commercial offerings, there were several old Alphasonik push-pull designs labeled 'Class A Circuit' - A265, PMA-2035, PMA-2100.

There are three generations of Soundstream "Class A" amps including the original Class A 40, 50, and 100, the Reference Series Class A 5.0 and 10.0, and the Rubicon Series Class A Picasso and Renoir.

Pioneer's fan-cooled Premier models GM-X922 and GMX-1022 were labeled 'Class A'.

HSS Fidelity HT230 - tubes and class A

Monolithic Class A 50S

I'm sure I'm missing some...........
