hallo,
starting my first post with a quastion, not good. But maybe someone will responce. I am in front of beginning my clone of 1st Aleph 3. I have dicided to clone this one, becouse it seems to be not so difficult. I have read this amplifer may require some higher efficiency loudspeakers, >90db. If someone could tell me, if my VA Hadyn with 88,89db will be "prperly" driven by aleph 3? thanks in advance |

It all depends on how loud you want to play it.

I've been using 89-90dB Odin loudspeakers powered by a 10W SE JLH amp quite successfully for a while. They played loud enough. It depends on how big your listening room is, too. The difference between 10W and 30W is not that big in reality. At least not 3 times louder.

Actually it is, but it isn't perceived that way. From your
description I imagine an Aleph 3 would do the job. |

Definitely would do the job. I myself am planning of building an Aleph 30. I have all the parts but I can’t find the time to put them together. And yes, I was talking about the subjective perception of the difference between 10 and 30W.

thank for all your reply
i must admit, i was thinking, that my question is not only the "loudness of the music" problem. I do not hear music very loud usually. My room is 13 square meters large. I thougt that low efficiency lodsppeakers and aleph 3 may provide me with some inproper quality of sound. so thanks one more time. will report progress of the work |

Hi,
A friend of mine has a Hiraga amp with 20watt per channel. They play loud with an efficiency of 88db! (Remember with an aleph 30 you have 60watts for stereo.) Remco Blankesteijn |

As with sex, it isn't necessarily size that counts most. I have
heard small wattage amps do a better job of controlling a loudspeaker and otherwise sound better, but I have also heard the reverse. Assuming that you are not clipping the amp, potential power relates to quality, but not always in a predictable way. |

floor plan) and 88/89db is not remotely low efficiency (82db to 84dB I would describe as low) in my book 89dB is medium/high ( 86dB/87dB being medium). |
