What is EI72? 7x2 cm coil crossection in the laminations?

Anyway, that's certainly too large for me; I'd like about 1 mH, as the capacitance multiplier in the next stage takes leftover ripple down several orders of magnitude.

MCM Electronics carries air core inductors that i've used before. I just checked and they have 1.00 mH and 1.50 mH in stock. The part i used
was the 2.00 mH that Mr. Pass recommended in the SOZ article. Some people complain that they look cheap, but they've worked fine in my ZEN, Aleph 2, and Aleph-X amps.

MCM Electronics

just do a search for air core inductor.

An air cored inductor would need more turns and thus would have larger DCR for the same wire gauge.

Any help calculating EI core for a 1 mH? I have access to various old transformers as well as a manual winder.

Hi

I started out with 47mf 0.11 Ohm 47mf 0.11 Ohm 47mf.
With 9A and the resistors get realy hot.
Then I change to a I Coil from intertechnik 1.5mH
http://intertechnik.de/index.html/JT...3761&suchwort=
The temperature of the coil is 100 C and I have 20mVTT rimple at 9A

For my Aleph-X's I used the Hammond 156B Open Choke. 1.5mH 0.07ohm, rated for 5A. Cheap and relatively small too.

Rob, what was the power of your 0.11 Ohm resistor ?

I want to use 2 resistors (CRCRC), one 1.5Ohm / 50W and one 1Ohm / 50W. It is less expensive than a choke (for me). (about 50€ for the resistor and the heatsink and for 2 amp with 4.5A of bias).
The ripple will be of 2mV.

Hi,

are you shure it is less expensive? You´ll need a bigger transformer, bigger heatsinks and you will draw more current (so your electricity bill will be higher). The temperature inside your case will also be higher.

The Torobars cost around 13€ a piece depending on source and will give a better result.

William

Hi Emeric

I used 2 10W ceramic 0.22 Ohm resistors parallel and connected on the elco.
They heat up the elco to much so I changed the layout and now use a Coil.

Hi william and Thanks for your repply,

If the torobar is at this price, that's great !

But Is it easy to buy it ? (for france)

What model do you advise me for 4.5A / 20V and 50mV ripple max ?
