What is the difference in VFET1 and VFET2 sound?

I was ready to build a VFET1 and readied all the components and then VFET2 came along. Since the VFET output transistors that I have are limited, I can probably build only one amp and not both.

My amps are usually connected to a Altec system (like cathedral) or a Fostex full range system. Which VFET amp should I build that will sound better with the above speaker combo and an analog turntable front end?

I know it is not an easy answer but any pointers will help.

VFET1 - Common Source amp which makes more use of the VFET triode character.

VFET2 - Source Follower with VFET and a very nice front end.

I don't know how the sound compares, but if I can only build one of them, I'll opt for VFET1.

I don't think anyone has built the VFET2 amplifier and commented on the sound yet. I am like you and have most of the components for the VFET1 but I have decided to wait until a board is made for the VFET2 and will probably build it.

The listening panel has weighed in: The feedback version of V2 with minor
resistor value revisions wins on all counts.

Before I commit to the artwork, I am going to test a version based on a
regulated switching supply which needs no regulators in the circuit. Also,
given the results so far, a version with single pairs and feedback may be
viable.

Thanks Mr. Pass. Will wait to build VFET2. Will try to cobble together few matched pairs if possible or will build a single pair version.
