Havent bought any volume Pots in a while, I used to buy Noble pots for most projects, but apparently they have stopped making them. The more expensive TKD seems to have suffered the same fate. I have located a few 100K Noble units, but need a 50K unit for the BA-3 as pre amp.
For the B-1 I used the recommended PEC pots, but wanted something a little more elegant for the BA-3 as Pre amp I am finishing up. The Goldpoint that 6L6 used in his build was nice, but a little rich....may have to save for it as I am not finding much else out there.
What are the Pass builders out there using for your volume pots? Any help in this regard would be appreciated.

I'm spoiled
either that , or 10K audio taper from radio mix deck
if not these , cheap Lorlin lookalike switch based attenuator with smd resistors is best bang for the buck - fleabay is full with those

AVC looks sweet, even more $ than Goldpoint! Looks like no cheap way to do this elegant, I'll search Ebay for value dreck...can always replace later with more elegance ($)...
Thanks,

Check other setups, like two-pole. 4 would be for balanced, but you get the drift.

ladder type with SMD is best baaaang for the buck

If you are going to build your own, be sure you get a schematic of the pin in and outs by the manufacturer.
Bought one from partsconnexion.com and one miss wire ruined 6 hours of work. Yes, I did test for in and out connections. On this build, the pins were off-set and the first position was actually physically the second position. What a mess! It made no sense. To boot, the switch had two sets of inputs.
Goldpoint has surface mount switches.

Ok, since I'm not doing balanced I need 2 pole right? If I need 50k I suppose I could get a 4 pole 100k and hook 2 channels together and end up with 50k?ladder type with SMD is best baaaang for the buck

I wouldn't put two decks in parallel
buy 4 pole and make stereo ladder type
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

OK, I'll fish around for stereo pot first and do it ladder style as you guys suggest if only 4 pole available. Off to Ebay...Audio taper I presume?

Here's one assembled, 50K which is the value 6L6's project used,
I assume others like 100K wouldnt be as good as 50K?
Does not say if "make before break".....

Iam using on of these in my ba3, unbalanced. Its worked for 3 or 4 years, had it in multiple preamps, only cleaned it once. Its big though if size is an issue.

I'd go with 10k. The Pass circuit will drive it fine, and the hf response is much better.
The maximum Rout is then only 2.5k.
agree ; condition is that source is not on sissy side , regarding output impedance
up to 300R will fine drive 10K attenuator , even if 100R is better

Its worked for 3 or 4 years.
You mean it stopped working after only 3 - 4 years ?

I see its a four pole. I see your pre was unbalanced did you just ignore the other 2 channels, and leave them unconnected? Otherwise, how did you wire it to your 2 channel pre? Thanks guys,
(maybe I'm confused, I am assuming "4 Poles" means four channels? If its only 2 then that clears things up...)

Yes, "pole" is the number of electrically separate switches in the assembly.
Yes, "pole" is equivalent to channel here.
He shows some 2 pole ones as well , think i will snag one.🙂
