Ha- I'm doing the same with my son now and wondering if our kids will ever have this same experience of teaching THEIR kids to drive. Perhaps this will become an obsolete skill in another few years 🙂.. and things like teaching my daughter to drive.😱
Small update. I have switched the NE5532AP with NJM4580D and without touching other components, offset halved from 17mV to 8mV. I also have about 50 hours burn in and I'm very happy in combination with my HD800. The sound is beautiful with well recorded recordings and crap if bad recorded.
Happy building and listening!
PS almost done with the enclosure.

This may indeed be the last generation that learns to drive Eric.
Will I EVER be getting the Flying Car I was promised in those 80's
'Tomorrow's world' episodes??!
How will software make 'moral dilema' type calls --- Do I plow into the mother and Child bicycle combo Or Kill my owner via deceleration injury by piling into concrete wall? Hmmm - I hope I get to choose that one in the 'Set Up'
Menu!
Wayne, would you tag one with my name if you get your hands on more?
Thanks,
Steve
While we are off topic (and as a parent) can I recommend "street survival"
There is a website 'streetsurvival.org'
It's great.

There you go...another satisfied NEW JAPAN RADIO COMPANY offering customer!😀
As you've just found out, the bipolar '4580 sounds fantastic and only cost pennies on the dollar.
What more could you ask for??
Completed my headphone amp/pre amp. Sounds a magnitude. better than my Arcam pre-outs. It is follows closely the configuration with the following changes - 28k uF capacitance for power supply (Nichicon KW), Silmics and FCs for the other caps, 3.3k input resistance, Opa627s. Offset was 0.2 mV for both channels.
Currently driving my Pass VFet power amp beautifully. My thanks to Jim and Wayne. My advice to future builders is to get a bigger chassis. It was a pain fitting it in, and I needed to change my input caps for it to fit - tore out the solder caps and I needed to hardwire. A bit of buzz at high volumes, but it disappeared when I implemented a ground lift. Great pre amp!

New PassDIY Headphone Amp (Coming Soon)
Op amp rolling - could be heresy in the Pass forum. Been playing around with the Opa2134, OPA627 and Muses01 in the headamp. The OPA2134 were decent, but the other two were significantly better. Quick summary:
OPA2134 - Nice balance but sounds a bit veiled. In my setup, offset of 0.1mV and 0.6mV
OPA627 - Lush midrange and very detailed and warm. Voices never sounded so good. 0.2mV offset for both channels
Muses01 - Neutral, with a wider soundstage as compared with the 627s. Felt like you are sitting slightly further away from the stage. Very balanced. 0.6mV and 1mV offset.
Been switching between the Muse01 and the 627s - the Muses is staying in for the time being, but I may change back to the 627s if I start missing the lush midrange.

without wishing to appear a greedy boy...
Is there a concise description and schematic, b.o.m., etc in one place or do I just start wading through this thread?
I read the first few pages and there was some comments about the store stocking boards and potentially the bom... what's the scoop here?
cheers

You'll want to check the search thread option and type in BOM
There are 2 different BOM posted in the pages and there were some schematic revisions added I think since when I received the PCB I have to order a couple of items like more heat sinks.
i.e. check the PCB with the BOM .
