I'm currently playing with an active speaker speaker system so I have loads of amplifiers in my arsenal to drive the system.
While I'm building the speakers I'm just comparing the amplifiers.
I've been comparing the Quad 606 against my mighty Aleph 4.
Although the Quad can punch some 180W against the Aleph's 100W it just doesn't seem to have the same weight behind the volume. The Quad is becoming fatiguing whereas I can listen to the Aleph at full volume for hours.
It's like comparing some X Factor wannabee against the genuine Tom Jones.
Everything else is exactly the same, I've just changed the power amp.
