Hi to you all, it is possible to use an audio-grade transfo, like jensen or lundhal, for to drive amps like the Zen family, using them to gain voltage, improve in/out interface parametres adn drive directly from an unbalanced source like most of the consumer CD players?
I'm also interested to use them like volume pot, but i think that it would be too much expensive. What do you think about?

I have experience with the Jensens, and they are very fine
transformers, but their value is mainly in isolation or balanced/ unbalanced conversion. If you want to drive a SOZ from a single-ended source, this would be a good application. Using them to impedance match, say a high output impedance preamp to a low impedance amp (such as a Zen) is workable, but you will find that you must proportionately raise the input signal, since you will be trading voltage for current. In that case the same results would have been achievable by using a higher value input resistor, and with better results. |
