Very nice video.
If you are taking notes for part two, I would love to see some 4ohm love since we are using an output trafo. I had a look at the Hammond line since it would be easier for me to get, but they seem to be designed for tubes. Higher primary impedance, lower currents and weird pinouts, and I was lost. You think we can make it work with something like that? Tube oriented trafos should be much easier to source. Or the line is getting very steep? http://www.hammondmfg.com/pdf/EDB1650NA.pdf

I really want to build this! Will RCA outputs from an iPhone be a good way to drive it?

>I doubt that!
A specific reason? Not enough gain? Wrong output impedance? |

First of all 1V RMS output its way too low for direct driving the SIT.
The output impenace is ok. Most important for me is the sound quality, I doubt its any good. I have an ipod who served me once for testing as a source and it sounded ok, but way toooo bad...But we all have diferent tastes, so if you dont want to build or buy a good source (dac,cd player, else...) it can be as a substitute but you will need an pre amp (20x gain or more) whit low output impedance to be able to drive a SIT like this. Just my 2 cents... ![]() Last edited by DIYspaceW; 21st April 2014 at 04:02 PM. |

I use my iPhone to drive my Topping T-amp and Fostex Metronomes (uncompressed AAC captured from CD's) and it sounds pretty good to me.
Thanks for the input, I guess I will need a pre-amp. |
