I am not aware of any 044N as such. There is a letter
which appears to be part of the lot code, and I have a batch
of these with the "M", but I don't think there's anything
to it.
By they way, we are intending to make these available
in matched sets on passdiy.com for the 900 or so that
I have.

An hour later:
I looked them up, and there is indeed an 044N, and
the N apparently stands for "new"
It is not the same part after all, with the biggest
alteration being a reduction in wattage rating
to 100 watts down from 180 and a lower Rds
from .028 to .02
Beyond that, I don't know whether they sound
better or worse, my only experience being with
044's. I wouldn't hesitate to try them out,
however.

It's just that some persons on this forum have said these are better for switching rather then amplification.
My Zen sounds fine. I have 10 of these and will probably build 4 mini-alephs.
Thanks for the reply.
