I’m finally going to put together my mono block Aleph 5’s. Because these will be running my Quad 57’s I’ve decided to change my plans from a Aleph 2. I already have a pair of 1000va 33-0-33 trannys and enough heat sink for the A2 as well as a bunch of 36000uf 40V computer grade caps. I just wanted to run by my plan by the more (much more) experienced for obvious flaws and to ask a few questions. Here’s what I was planning to do.
I plan on choke loading the tranny’s with some Hammond 15mH 4 amp chokes then feed a 36000 cap, then air cored 12 gauge 2.2 mH (a pair of course, one for + and another for -) in a separate outboard supply. In the main amps I’d have another 4 36000 uf caps. This should give me 29-30V rails. Since I have enough heat sinking I was going increase the bias to ~3 amps. As I understand it (or don’t) in the Aleph 5, the removal of R19 doesn’t increase bias all that much due to its already high value (221K). Therefore I was going to change the source resistors to 0.68 from 1. I also have some Caddock 0.1ohm 25W I was going to use on the outputs. So here are my questions. Do I have change the value of R16 if I change the source resistors? Are the 0.1-ohm output resistors close enough? The A5 has 4 parallel 0.47’s. Are there any other changes I should make since my rails are going to be 4-5 V lower the A5? Will 0 .68 source resistors get me up to 3A bias? Can I use 100V Shockleys with a choke input? Is my thinking flawed? TIA, any input/tips/suggestions would be appreciated. |
