6L6 PAIR WOULD BE ABOUT 50 W / 6V6 SOUND BETTER(IN A GUITAR AMP) AND 6CA7 HAVE THE POWER IF 6L6 BUT ARE MORE LIKE 6V6 SONICALLY...IMHO

So I guess the closest equivalent is the EL34.......what are the sonic differences between the two all things being equal?
This might be on the border of thread jacking and we might want to start a new thread for 6L6 fans. Jam P.S. Someone else from the Carolinas..........I thought I was the only one around these parts. Good day eyoung. Last edited by jam; 12th August 2012 at 06:13 PM. |

My XA 30.5 break-in took 10 days of constant playing, with 1 hour shut off every day. At nights the amp operated at low volume, not to interrupt my sleep. At day time, the amp was operated at moderate listening volume. During the break-in the sound signature changed constantly, until it stabilized.

Joshua, knowing how high your standards are, I am flattered that you like
the XA30.5's.

Papa,
Thank you, though I don't deserve your kind words. The excellent sound quality of your products needs no reassurance from an amateur like me. It's just the other way around, I take pride in being able to recognize the superb sound quality of the XA30.5. I take pride in being able to recognize superb sound for what it is. Should I win the lottery (statistically I have better chances to be run down by a train), I plan to replace it with XA100.5, or at least XA60.5 (I heard what a more powerful amp, like the X200.5, can do to the sound of my setup). |
