Default IRFP250 for ACA

Just noticed that the IRFP240 is not available anymore, but I can get Vishay IRFP250. Can that be considered a straight replacement for my ACA V1.1 build?

The extra input capacitance of a 50 series MOSFET will cause an increase in distortion at high frequencies. I tried a 60 series MOSFET and you could see the distortion on a scope at 1KHz.

I would use bipolar transistor in the capacitance multiplier as the voltage drop will be about 4 volts. I used a capacitance multiplier in my F5 as the power transformer I had on hand was 20 volts instead of 18 volts and it worked out quite nicely.

1) IRFP240pbf is still certainly available.
2) If you go with bipolars best to assemble Darlington.
3) You don't need the 47000uF but keeping the 4700uF at the output would be ok.

Thanks for the replies. You guys are great.

4V drop is exactly what I'm hoping for, and I'll put the 4700uF back into my schematic.

The RS website (where I get most of the components from) says the IRFP240 has been discontinued. I assumed nobody else will have it either, but now I'll check.

Thanks, I found some IRFP240's at another local supplier. They have limited stock.

How would I know if it's original Vishay FET's? I've asked and the letters following 240 is Y7IK, not PBF.

A mate mentioned the IRFP244. Would that work if stock on the 240 runs out?
