Digital relay switched log pot emulation audio .WAV's.
http://pages.infinit.net/helloftp/attenemulator.zip Instructions: Burn the .WAVs on a CD, make in order. For most, if your pre-amp doesn't add gain to the signal, a full volume setting, or -0db setting will simulate the bottom 4 volume steps of a [x]bit logarithmic pot. The -infinity would be the mute. The sample .WAVs were digitally attenuated. Obviously, they wont illustrate the quality of a log pot, since, only the LSB bits on your CD player's DAC are being used, but, they will help you decide how many bit's you would want when making a digital log pot. The .WAV contain a rendering of a cheap generic beat midi file. It sound cheesy, but, it's flat volume throughout it's play makes for a good indication of volume level. Each file steps the volume every 3 seconds, for a total of 27 seconds each. ------------------------------------------------------ 4 bit 16 step -64db attenuator, 4db per step: -52, -56, -60, -64, -infinity db, -64, -60, -56, -52. ------------------------------------------------------ 5 bit 32 step -64db attenuator, 2 db per step: -58, -60, -62, -64, -infinity db, -64, -62, -60, -58. ------------------------------------------------------ 6 bit 64 step -64db attenuator, 1 db per step: -61, -62, -63, -64, -infinity db, -64, -63, -62, -61. ------------------------------------------------------ 'attfade20sec.mp3'. This 1 is an .mp3, if I left it as a .wav, it would add 2-3 megabytes to the download. It starts with 5 quiet warning beeps at -52db! It then logarithmically fades in starting at -64db to 0 db in 21 seconds. That's around 3db / second. The last 10 seconds is at -0db, or full volume. ------------------------------------------------------ http://pages.infinit.net/helloftp/attenemulator.zip
