To translate the second link, you need not only to know english well but also be familiar with terminology. So I just translate the first link for you all, maybe not translate very well and not in precise sentences, but just for your reference.
The following is the translated article.

If you are a Hi-End Audiophile , you should be very familiar with the perfect performance of stepped type attenuator, Although in either subjective or objective thinking, the character of it is great, unfortunately it cost much, espically if you use exotic military grade resistors, it will cost even more than hundards of
dollors(US dollors), and will despond you.
To help DIYers' dreams come true, DZ specially organize
this stepped type attenuator kits. This kit is Ladder type
as generally acknowledged the best type, signals pass
through only two resistors under any volume, short path, low nosie, wonderful structure.
This kit include 24 position switches, any contact is silvered,
and is designed as connected before break, lower the noise most when you change the volume, what amazing is, we use 1% tolerance DALE RN60D resistors, such a hot stuff. what most important is the cost is less than NTD1000 (ps. actually it cost around $20 US dollors)
Such a wonderful thing, how can you resist it??

(ps2. DZ has only 10K version at this moment)

Hope this will help you, and sorry for my bad English grammar
Best regards,
pengzy

What you see is a DIY attenuator available in Taiwan. The price is about $25 ~ $30 USD, but you need to assemble yourself.

The site that sell it is here:
http://www.my3c.net/product/detail.asp?ky=&pid=1797&sgid=104&gid=7&gid2=&Sort=&Price=

The assemble DIY page is here:
http://www.diyzone.net/article.php?sid=369

It also has a page that allows you to calculate different value for your resistance needed, though all are in Chinese. If anyone needs help in translation, I will be glad to help.

The do sell and ship international, but the shipping is about $25 USD, which is high for one item; however, the shipping is fixed to any parts you buy!

Thomas

I must admit, 25$ is about 1/5th the price of my switched attenuator, however, wireless remote for mine is a +. PCBs are scheduled to be in by November 7.

Hope this helps!

(I also have the zip file for all, but it is too big to be uploaded. Feel free to send me e-mail, if you need one!)

Hi Guys,

I made one for my tube preamp last month.

This is, I would say, the best *tweak* I have ever done.

By the way, The translation from Thomas is correct. Only one remark:

"Connect first, then cut-off" means "make before break". :)

Enjoy!

Second remark: I'm still VERY happy :D with my Aleph 3 clone.

My Preamp

Hello Tomchaoda,

Here is the link (in Chinese, sorry for other folks):

http://www.keces.com.tw/~korping/diyproject/audiodiy/D0305002/D0305002.htm

Actually it's a kit from KECES. :)

I included a 10H/100mA CHOKE for the B+ filtering, which you may not see on the pics. Rectifier changed to Mullard CV1377

If you need some information, please check:

http://www.keces.com.tw

Cheers!
Jesse
