I'm afraid they will put me on a no-fly / terror suspect list by the FBI if I buy those kinds of heavy duty caps! You know how we love our conspiracy theories in this country.
My take away is that I need to go shopping for caps!!

IIRC, either buzz or AudioSan said that they were using 1W and it was just fine.
YMMV

Just to be safe, when you "fire it up" use a variac................slooooowly. Or the lightbulb in series trick.
One of the two will come along and correct me if I was wrong.

I need to make a decision about how wide to make this thing. I would like it to be as narrow as possible as the sinks are four inches wide. How much room do I need for the ps?

I think about 10" is minimum. Its what I have and things feel tight. What is your overall length. You have to 6" plus for toroid. Mine is 18" deep/long and 10" wide.Next will be bigger.

The limit will be either the diameter of the transformer or the width of the PSU board. Which ones do you have/are planning on using?
