Default PASS + STORM Current and/or voltage output stage ?

Dear all

I am quite a newbie here (just a wonderful ZEN amp to feed my Tannoy GRF Rectangulars with HPD 315A coaxials speakers).
I read a review of the STORMAUDIO R-170 Revelation in a french magazine (4 900 €...).
This amp can apparently be continualy adjusted from current to voltage output stage, which says the reviewer allows a perfect match with the loudspeakers. They say that the difference in results are huge with this tuning

I would like few clarifications from you experts :
- is it really a feature or just marketing hype
- if it is a good idea, would it be possible to make some evolution of the PASS designs to test it "live", or maybe consider it in the future
- if not, how to determine if your speakers are more current or voltage oriented

Thanks in advance

The idea is valid. It is unproven that high damping factor results in the best
sonic performance. Variable output impedance has been around for a long
time. You can check Rod Elliot's pages for a suitable circuit.

Lacking that, of course you can put a resistor in series with the speaker
and see what you get.
