I am building the BZLS as my first Pass DIY project, I have built a G. Randy Slone design, and am in the final stages of an Anthony Holton AV800.
I wanted and excellent pre-amp and am interested in the Zen designs. I have a question... C1 and C2 are given as 100v devices can I use 50V ? I have never been much on using high end or esoteric components but I am considering using the Multicap PPFX28 10.0uf/200V but at US$38.00 each ($52.00 Canadian each ). I would like to know if it is worth the investment otherwise I will use a 50v generic metallized polyester film capacitor.Thank You! |

build it with the Panasonic caps first. They're much cheaper. Then
see how the "stock" unit sounds to you. Then you have a built in "upgrade" path if you feel it needs it. The BZLS sounds great to me - built per the article.

C1 and C2 of 50V are considered acceptable as they are blocking +30VDC in the original schematic. I think that the esoteric capacitors possible to get within your low budget are good enough.
