Was is Nelson Pass who designed the Soundstream car
amplifiers when the company first formed back in 1980's? I remember a small amp that was 18w/ch that was class A. I'm trying to recall old memories ................... |

I did some contract work for Nakamichi which resulted in the
initial Soundstream amplifiers, but as I am stilled owed some money, I tend not to highlight it. For the record, I also did some autosound work for Adcom. They do not still owe me money. |

I have the 4x30W and 4x40W models.
It's a shame this just didn't work out for Adcom. I thought, and still think they sound incredible for car amplification... if you have the space. I still they they are the best looking amps out there. |

I have a Soundstream single rack space power amp that has a switching supply in it. Runs quite warm after a while and doesn't sound worthy of being a Pass Design.

Well, I hate to bump such an old thread but I had recently read about Mr. Pass's car audio dealings in his interview in Stereophile back in '91 I believe.
Does anyone know and specific models of Adcom or Soundstream amplifiers he had a hand in? I kind of collect old mobile amplifiers and would like to know what ones to be on the look out for ![]() ....and I kind of know thylantyr lol.

The soundstream versions you are looking for are the A40 (class a - 20wpc) the D100 and the D200 (50wpc & 100wpc)
I can say they are all very fine amps and still have an A40 and a D200. They use Darlington pairs and are all discreet components (easy to repair) Jeff |
