Default Headphone amp

Guys, i've joined here specifically to ask whether Monsieur Pass has a headphone schematic? I've done the hybrid type (ecc82/irf510) as a 1st but, am wanting to try the solid state in order to rid myself of the age old question:- Which indeed is better ? 'Ol' K.Melhua has thrown some spanners in the works at present. Grado sr60 would be what i need to drive. Always liked them for their good value, poss unbeatable at the price. As for Mr. Pass- clever guy/good points made/like his thoughts on things and willing to help from all i've seen. So, what have we? Many thanks to all.

Hi,

Don't know about a Pass specific hp-amp but there was some discussion about the f3 as a hp versus the DAO(i think?). If you search around for DAO and you might find some interesting posts.

regards,
Joris

ps little link i just found:
Downscaling Zen v.9 for use as headamp

And there was UGS headphone amp in UGS adventures thread here in DIY-Audio.

Thanks for that. I'll check out this DAO lark, no idea what it is yet. Fet follower or similar? Any and all suggestions welcome, my take on audio seems to mirror most i.e- the less in the way, the more we get. Now, a capacitorless class A would be right up my street(bar output cap, if i must). Not at all sure if it's poss but it gets yet another signal degrading component 'outta there'. Then again, i'll take my cues from the more experienced out there, hence joining the site. I'm just getting back into it after years and have forgotten quite a lot!! Thanks again

The DAO is the amp to build provided you have the right headphones

Yep, found those a bit ago. Lots of things to suss out. As i see it, i maybe don't need gain ,although my present one has a gain of 12. When i'm at '3' on volume it's enough for most, going through the amp. Wouldn't hear anything normally at that level. As the Grados are a bit current hungry, poss just a current boost to help out the built- in chip. Don't know as yet. At the end of the day, female vocals/instruments are the things i want to capture at their best, whichever way gets me that, is the way i'll take. Thanks again
