The price I get? 31000 for X150.5 and 41000 for X250.5

Buying the 31000 can save you 10000 on a PASS preamp and if you sell the BelCanto ...

The one thing I care about is bass control. These speakers have very tight bass but it is tricky to get good control from the amplifier.

So if I'm afraid of bass control were you in my place you would consider X150.5 a safer bet as the XA30.5?

I think by essence on the Thiels going from X150.5 to X250.5 won't change things in a big manner, in the bass domain It's all about max. output power available rather than bass control, so it mostly affects your max. SPL only

PASS designs are conservative and the X supersymmetry gives a very tight, controlled and extended bass. After that, you would try to search which is the speaker cable that gives you best bass, and overall good sound in combination with the Thiels and the PASS. All I can say

With the X250.5 if the first 20 watts are class A into 8 ohm does it double into 4 ohm? 40 watts?

not 20, for the latest version it's 15W.
In 4 Ohm it would be half of that, 7.5W (bias current is constant, watt power is current squared times impedance)

The XA30.5 is undoubtedly superior to the X.5, and a bargain in that range if you can live with 30W/8.
(rather little power for loudspeakers of below 90dB/W/m efficiency)

Oh I see. So this basically means that even at really low volumes I will still be listening in class AB with speakers like mine no?
