I'm fascinated by the discussions here, especially regarding class A power amp designs. I'm thinking of building one ... 15-20watt/ch into about 8ohms. Which design would be a good reference to start with? I can look into tweaks and mods.
Thx, Rob |

The F5 is fantastic. The Mini Aleph is also good starting point. It can be scaled to your wattage requirement. Chipamp.com has boards on sale right now. Looking to get some myself.

I would start with a simple one like a BA-1 as a reference. Also depends on the speaker you are driving and your budget.

Aleph J is my favorite. It does depend on taste and listening habits. The F5 was not my cup of tea but it is a fine amp non the less.
Don't underestimate the heatsink requirements with any of the Class A designs. |

I've been doing searches on different suggestions and it takes awhile to wade through all the postings. Is there somewhere where schematics are posted of different designs?
That would be a great thing to have .. an archive of different design schematics. Rob |

Hi Rob,
In a perfect world it would be a great idea, but nowadays there are too many willing to steal someone's intellectual property for commercial gain. Stolen designs from Pass pop up on Ebay almost every day. You will have to continue reading the threads and give us more hints about what would suit you, and your preferences. There is plenty of help available if you decide to jump in. |
